Absence Procedure Goes Online

Students can simply turn in their documents online

At Busan University of Foreign Studies, when students wanted to register for absence, they had to visit their professor or their department office to submit their documents. After doing so, once the professors understood the reason for their absence, their absence was approved. However, the problem with this was that the students who had an unexpected absence could not go and see their professors right away, which meant that those students had to wait until they returned to campus before they could turn the documents in.

To solve such a problem, the school decided to introduce an online absence system. Based on the new system, students no longer have to visit their professors nor department offices. This also helps the professors to deal with all the absence cases. They simply need to check all of the online documents turned in by the student and they can approve the absence immediately.

In order for the students in BUFS to submit their absence documents, they must first choose the correct form provided in the BUFS Student Portal System. After filling in all of the details in each form, they must attach the file that shows the reason for their public absence. Once they click send, their work is over. The file will be sent automatically to the student's department and, once received by the department office, it will be sent to the professor. After the professor has checked the submitted documents and the files, they can approve the absence. Finally, the students should check to make sure that all the information is correct and that their absences have been approved.

The Department of Student Welfare said, "We decided to have the students submit their absence documents online because it was more comfortable for everyone. Students no longer have to visit their department offices nor go see their professors for such matters. Professors also do not have to spend their time talking with students about absences. Also, the office staff in all departments can save time by using this online absence procedure. We hope to provide a more convenient system for our students."
