2023 Development of Micro Majors

The Convergence Education Center belonging to Busan University of Foreign Studies held a workshop based on the 2022 convergence education outcomes on 30 August. The point of the workshop was to inform people about the development of the new micro-major, which came about as a result of the university innovation project from the Ministry of Education. The university innovation project is a system that strengthens the university's basic capability and cultivates those who have the ability for autonomous development in response to change in the future society. They try to create various environments which students can study and experience at school. As part of the project, the micro-major course was developed. Micro-majors follow curriculums based on short-term intensive employment orientation.

Jeong Yun-cheol, Director of Education and Development, said this will receive positive responses from students and boost the potential for students to get jobs. Most of all, it also plays a role in reducing the credit burden on students. On this topic, President Chang Soon-heung also believes that the micro-major will help to develop a combination of foreign languages, IT, and engineering. From the first semester in 2023, various majors such as micro-major global children's education, global multicultural society, and global publishing and editing majors will be developed. In particular, in majors opened for foreigners (such as K-beauty and global marketing research) there is expected to be high participation and demand from international students.

In conclusion, there is a lot of anticipation about how many students will be interested in the new major, as well as how much effort and support the university will give to students who apply for it. Also, as a new initiative, it will be interesting to see if there is any difference with other majors when students take a micro-major and what advantages and disadvantages it has.
