The European football season ended in June. The leading team of each league held their trophies, and individual achievements were nominated. Fans across the world were thrilled to see who won individual awards.
Son Heung-min, a player in the South Korea National football team, and club player for Tottenham Hotspurs of the Premier league, won the Golden Boot award for the 2021-2022 season. He was the joint top scorer in the Premier League, winning the award along with Mohammad Salah, who managed to score one goal in the last game to tie the record.
On the last game of the EPL season, Tottenham Hotspurs faced Norwich City, who had already been condemned to relegation. Before the game, Son Heung-min was behind Salah on the leading scorer table, with Son having scored 20 goals, and Salah having scored 21. If Son scored one goal and Salah failed to score in the last game, it was possible for Son to win the Golden Boot.
In the first half, Son tried hard to score. However, Norwich were successful in blocking his attempts on goal. They did concede three goals to Tottenham, but they were all scored by other Spurs players, not Son. In the second half, though, Son managed to score. Not just that, he scored one more goal, making himself the lone leading goal scorer in the league. However, after just a few minutes, Salah scored a goal in the game against Wolverhampton F.C.
After the game, Son was awarded with the Golden Boot of the 2021-20222 season. This was headline news not only in South Korea, but across the whole of Asia, because this was the first time any Asian player had won the award.
When Tottenham Hotspurs came to South Korea during summer for a event match-up against the K-League All-Star Team, many South Korean fans went to see and greet the award winner. They were cheering for the first time Asian Golden Boot Winner of EPL. Son Heung-min is still working hard to develop himself, and every Korean soccer fan is supporting him for the best and hoping for good results in the upcoming World Cup.
