Busan International Classic Music Festival with Great Transformation And Embrace

From Wednesday, November 16, to Friday 25, for a total of five days, Busan Cultural Center and Nurimaru APEC House will hold the Busan International Classic Music Festival (BICmf) 2022 pre-concert. The theme of the concert is 'Great Transformation and Embrace'. The festival is hosted by the Busan International Classic Music Festival Organization Committee, Busan Ilbo, and International Newspaper. Open Busan has become a platform of inclusion by strengthening its expertise, and Busan is expected to be a touchstone for building a highway of classical music to the world.

The music festival aims to create a world music festival suitable for the history of Busan, an international port city. It is a dream music festival for the 'Great Transformation' after COVID-19, while the new generation that has led the classical music industry in Korea and the world are once again able to 'Embrace' with music. The focus of the concert is on artistic director Oh Choong-keun, who conducted at a famous concert hall in Europe, Senior artistic director violinist Han Soo-jin (first Korean to win second place in the Bieniavsky International Competition), and three more appointed artistic directors. Global violinist Kim Jae-won (former deputy director of the Swiss Tonhalese Orchestra), violinist Kim Kyu-hyun (Nobusquartet Violist), and clarinetist Paik Dong-hoon (chief of the Eurasian Ocean Philharmonic Orchestra) will also be performing.

BICmf will be a time to declare Busan as the hub city of art beyond being the hub city of the world economy. In addition, this concert hopes that the world's music and art will move to Busan and the music that starts in Busan will spread throughout the world by using the platform of Great Transformation and Embrace. The performances of the BICmf pre-concert 'Great Transformation and Embrace' series are a fanfare that heralds the birth of the Busan International Classic Music Festival in 2023, as well as Busan music resources that will be built at the Busan International Art Center and Busan Opera House.

Oh Choong-keun, the music festival's artistic director, said, "Classic music is high-end content that desperately needs strong cooperation between the previous generation and the new generation. The performers, the audience, the public and private sectors should embrace each other in an organic relationship. For the festival to develop into a strong international event, there must be high-quality cooperation between the public and private sectors along with the state." Director Oh emphasized, "We need a paradigm shift from the existing order to the new order," adding, "Just as the inspiration from Busan's sea (nature) becomes a melody, I believe the wave of Busan International Classic Music Festival will be the power of K-classics."

The Busan International free concert of classical music is the start toward a bigger dream. The birth of the Busan International Classic Music Festival is expected next year than any other festival in the world. The Busan International Classic Music Festival will become a festival symbolizing the future of the 'art city of Busan'.
