Q: Could you please introduce yourself?

A: Hello, I am Jo Hye-bin, a senior at Busan University of Foreign Studies and badminton team captain.

Q: How did you get into this team?

A: When I was young, my gym teacher recognized my physical abilities and recommended me to join the badminton team. After working so hard, thankfully, I naturally entered Busan University of Foreign Studies, a prestigious school among elite universities.

Q: How did you become the captain of the badminton team?

A: Right now, our Busan University of Foreign Studies badminton team is young and I am the only senior. So, I have no choice but to do it(laughs). I had to became the captain of the team.

Q: What challenges did you face while leading the team and how did you overcome them?

A: Our team consists of eight players: three freshmen, four sophomore, and one senior. I am the only one in the upper grades, and all of the other players are freshmen and sophomores. I think it is probably the most difficult thing when it comes to taking care of and managing all seven players alone. However, I do not think it is that hard because my juniors trust me and follow me well.

Q: Do you have any memorable episodes?

A: There was a time last year when I got injured in a match. That match was the second doubles game in the final, and if we had won that match, we would have been the champion. But because of me, I gave the opposing team a win by abstention and so we had to take it to a fifth deciding game in singles. Also, the player who played the decider was injured and was not in good physical condition, but they pushed on to the end and won the match. Finally, we achieved the splendid feat of winning three consecutive championships. So, I had a picture of me wearing a cast and holding the winning flag. I can say that that is one of the most memorable episodes.

Q: What did you do to make it to the finals this time?

A: Summer this year has been very hot. Even though it has been so hot, the coaches have not missed a single day of training, and all the players are training with the goal of winning. The players have all developed good skills and have the technical abilities of players of a high-level team. So, we are building an atmosphere with the goal of winning the national championships, focusing on mental management and team harmony.

Q: Do you have anything to say to BUFSians who are trying hard to achieve their own dreams?

A: These days most students are having a hard time, not being able to enjoy college life due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but I think that if we all persevere and endure, we will surely be able to overcome this situation. The senior classmates are having a hard time looking for jobs, and the freshmen have their own troubles and hardships in many ways, but all of them are fighting. Busan University of Foreign Studies badminton team is silently working hard and doing its best for the honor of the school. Thank you BUFSians for your support. Please send a lot of love to the school badminton team!
