The Direction in which the University Should Proceed
University is an organization that trains students to become experts for the society. Therefore, university has departments and professors. Professors of each majors plan the whole educational mechanism for the department. Then they teach the students what must be learned, and how much is needed to be learned according to their experience. If this educational system fails, the whole education of the majors will fall too. This is also the reason why the Ministry of Education has separated departments into each specific majors, and had the students learn step by step in different semesters. What is most important is the expertise of professors who teach the students in the given circumstances. Professors must consistently watch over their students and quickly react to their needs. If the step by step teaching of professors fade out, the university education will fall.
Recently, our university had a debate on the module education system. They push this with the reason being that it is to reduce the money spent on education and to widen the option for students. I don't care what kind of reason sticks to this argument, but it is definitely not a right university education. It is not different from educations provided at academies or online classes, where there are no professions. With module system, experts will never grow. Can you speak foreign language better just by taking some more major foreign language classes? Can you become an expert of a place by taking a few courses? No. Also, if one chooses to take a course that one feels it's difficult, the students can never reach the level of expertise. Even if the students graduate with those curriculums, the society will evaluate the graduates of BUFS and the university negatively. Negative feedbacks of graduates will obviously lead to the shortage of freshmen signing up for our school.
It can be hard and expensive, but only educations led by specific experts can lead to the growth of students. This is how our university should carry on. Professionals of each foreign language, foreign regions, and every department will be acknowledged by their ability, and thus make BUFS the honorable university that everyone wants to come. This is the role of university; to secure the future of students and contribute to the country's development. We must make a university filled with students of specific and in-detail teaching education.
