How Long Will the Repetition of University Crisis Being Kept Repeated?

It is not a day or two happening but recently the data showing the university's reality has been revealed. The disclosure of university notification from the ministry of education showed that the number of students who quit school in one's will last year was around 100,000.

Seoul national university, Yonsei University, Korea University, and top universities also had 405~ 866 halfway dropouts last year. The reason for their quitting is because of the decision to go to the school of medicine, school of pharmacy, veterinary school, and professional department. The problem is a domino effect of halfway dropouts of top schools continued throughout college nationwide. The ratio of halfway dropouts is around three percent at Sogang university, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Sungkyunkwan university, and Hanyang university.

The reason why the students of these school quit are to go to Seoul national university, Yonsei University, and Korea university. The halfway dropout ratio of Busan national university, Kyungpook national university, and regional-based universities is around 4.3 percent. The students of regional-based universities choose to drop out to go to college in Seoul. The regional province universities are increasing. The reason is explained as to go to national universities and colleges in Seoul.

The reason why the halfway dropouts increased is because of the online classes due to COVID-19, weakening of the sense of belonging, and declining school-age population which is university enrollment resources. Also the unification of departments in universities in recent three years out of the total 700 cases 77 percent happened in regional areas. This seems to be the result of the reduction in the number of students and the preference for 'In Seoul universities.' Through this, the regional private schools are pushed into crisis. The fundamental reason for the crisis is that the local private universities are flooded due to indiscreet establishment approval. The college entrance rate was twenty percent in the 1970s and by 2008 it rose to 83.8 percent. It seems that in Korea college became compulsory education.

In our society, the term 'civil service exam failer vagabond' was commonly used. This is used to describe the students who take time off from school for years or hang on preparing for the civil service exam after graduating. Now there seems to be 'Dropout vagabond' forming. The increase of college student dropouts leads to the concern about new social expense waste. The education professionals point out that when students drop out in the middle and choose to study for half a year or a year it is concerning as the expenses of personal private education rise by around 10,000,000~20,000,000KRW. Especially studying again for a year or three the young people's economic activities are delayed and setting out to society gets postponed which could elevate the social expense waste.

The improvement of the regional private university, the active expenses investment of the government, and many other policies to revive the local universities are presented however addressing just this is far off. The improvement of perception needs to be preceded that the crisis of university is the crisis of the local region, and the crisis of the local region is the crisis of the nation. The reformation without the little substance slows the speed of innovation and at the same time and doubles the speed of a crash. We must be sure to remember that without extensive innovation the university and nation could not improve. Now.
