<Guide to Graduation Certification Requirements for International Students>

In addition to the graduation requirements set by the undergraduate and graduate programs,

international students must meet the following official language proficiency requirements in order to graduate.


1. Undergraduate


 2) Graduation Certification


  • Achieve one of the following: TOPIK Level 4 or higher, TOEFL iBT 59 or higher, IELTS 5.5 or higher, CEFR B2 or higher, or NEW TEPS 202 or higher
  • However, for the student from countries where English is mother tongue or common language in law these requirements are waived
  • Alternative requirements may be recognized through Korean language education programs, international exchange programs, etc., for students who do not meet the above criteria.

Alternative Requirements

  • Completion of the Ministry of Justice Social Integration Program:
    (Freshmen) Completion of Level 3 or pre-evaluation score of 61 or higher
    (Transfer students / undergraduate / graduate school) Completion of Level 2 or pre-evaluation score of 41 or higher
    (Re-enrolled students / undergraduate / graduate school) Completion of Level 4 or pre-evaluation score of 81 or higher (for junior college: expected)

  • Completion of Sejong Hakdang courses:
    (Freshmen) Beginner 1 completion (for junior college: expected)
    (Transfer students / undergraduate / graduate school) Intermediate 1 completion (for junior college: expected)

  • Completion of at least one year at a language training institution:
    (Freshmen) Completion of Level 1 or higher at a university-affiliated Korean language institute in Korea, or achieving TOPIK Level 3 or higher (only Korean proficiency is recognized)
    (Transfer students / undergraduate / graduate school) Completion of at least one year at a domestic university-affiliated language institute and passing its internal evaluation (only Korean proficiency is recognized; up to 40% of the academic year may be recognized, or up to 10% for a maximum of 6 months / 26 weeks; if a leave of absence exceeds one year, recognition is not granted; students with more than 50% absence in a semester [2 semesters/4 terms] are excluded)
