[Abstract]
This study explores the potential for triangular cooperation (TC) between Korea and Thailand within the framework of official development assistance (ODA). As a key player in the Mekong subregion, Thailand possesses extensive regional development experience and well-established networks, while Korea, as a member of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), provides financial resources and technological expertise. This study particularly emphasizes the mutual benefits of sharing development experiences, especially in the context of economic transformation. For effective triangular cooperation, strong institutional linkages, joint project management, and strategic planning are essential. Thailand’s development policies, implemented through organizations such as ACMECS, TICA, and MI, along with Korea’s transition from an aid recipient to a donor country, serve as key factors in enhancing their TC capacity. A Korea-Thailand TC partnership holds significant potential to generate development synergies that promote sustainable growth and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Mekong subregion. However, challenges such as clarifying aid objectives, establishing clear role distribution, and reducing transaction costs must be addressed.
